TMJ PAIN


Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome is pain in the jaw joint that can cause head and neck pain, facial pain, ear pain, and headaches. TMJ syndrome can also cause a jaw that is locked in position or difficult to open, problems with biting, and jaw clicking or popping sounds.

WHAT CAUSES TMJ PAIN?


The main causes of TMJ syndrome are trauma, clenching of the teeth, bruxism (teeth grinding), osteoarthritis, rhermatoid arthritis, cancer, and infection.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF TMJ PAIN?


  • Pain directly over the temporomandibular joint (just in front of the ear)
  • Pain in the muscles of the face and jaw that often radiates to the neck and shoulder area
  • Ear pain, Ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss may also occur in more severe cases.
